Finally after two aborted attempts and on our last day in Cairns the wind abated to allow us to go on our balloon flight. It was a 3am start and suffice to say we were both crapping ourselves as neither of us good at heights.....We drove 65km inland where the balloons were inflated as dawn broke. INTERESTING FACT NO 324.....The balloons capacity is 45000 cubic feet and 12 storeys high and can hold up to 24 people at a time depending on weight....They now average people's weight according to their nationality so it's 24 British, or 48 Chinese or 6 Americans.
The flight was not scary at all.....really serene in fact with wonderful views....We even saw some kangaroos.....up in the air for about 35 minutes and a smooth landing. We even helped pack it all away. Back to hotel in time for breakfast and now it's off to Port Douglas a bit north for 2 nights and hopefully, weather permitting, a day on the barrier reef. A cyclone offshore threatens bad weather and I'm already nervous about sea sickness but will go whatever.
